PromptMe is a checklist program designed for use in situations where you cannot handle a stylus or hold the Palm computer close enough to read small print. Thus, PromptMe uses large fonts and oversized buttons that can be pressed with a finger.
PromptMe is particularly useful when trying to remember tasks that must be done to avoid potentially serious consequences. It is also useful when practicing checklists that must be performed from memory.
Activities where PromptMe would be useful include, flying driving, teaching, lecturing and memorizing. For example, map reading while driving is both difficult and dangerous. When traveling unfamiliar roads, you might use PromptMe for driving instructions. You could obtain your list from the Internet or take it directly from maps.
The ability to defer items makes PromptMe suitable for applications where flexibility is needed, such as pilot checklists and lecture notes. PromptMe will not let you forget deferred items.
PromptMe can process checklists both forward and backward, making it unnecessary to duplicate lists when you want to run them backwards.
PromptMe uses checklists that it finds in the PalmOS Memo Pad. The advantage of this approach is that you do not have to learn yet another text entry and editing method. You already know the Memo Pad, so why learn another text entry method. This feature saves memory in your PDA by keeping PromptMe lean and mean. It also has the advantage that deleting and reinstalling PromptMe will not cause you to lose your checklists.
PromptMe allows you to use simple text lines as checklist items, or you may format your items by marking each item with a beginning character.
For a full description of this program, see the PromptMe User's Guide.
The full version of PromptMe can be downloaded from this site. However, until you register, it will remind you periodically that you are using an unregistered copy. As you approach 100 uses, PromptMe will issue count down reminders, and if you exceed 100 uses, it will refuse to process further checklists. In a tight, you can reinstall PromptMe and get another 100 uses. You won't lose your checklists.
PromptMe runs on devices that use PalmOS Verersion 1.2c and later.
